Love from NYC :: I did it.

On the 31st of January 2014 on my way to a New Years Eve party in Melbourne, I declared that I would go to New York City to write my book. And here I am eleven months later, back in Melbourne, shaking my head with amazement and thankfulness at what has just taken place. I actually did it. I rented an apartment and went to New York on my own and wrote my book. How crazy!

Like many people on New Year’s Eve, thoughts of expectation and anticipation of a brand new year filled my mind. All of a sudden I allowed myself to dream and thoughts possibility overwhelmed me. I love how God is always ready to stir up our dreams. All it takes is for us to stop, and dream and think, “what if….?!” So as I was dreaming, my mind began to expand and I thought, “I should just go somewhere for two months this year and write my book.” Not a bad idea right? Stirred with a passion so great I thought I might explode, I pulled over on the side of the street, grabbed my phone and began writing two emails.

Thinking without limits allows us to dream.

No one’s ever seen or heard anything like this, never so much as imagined anything quite like it – what God has arranged for those who love him!” (1 Cor 2:9 Msg)

In this place of dreaming, faith is easy and big dreams actually feel within reach. I thought “what the heck”,  bit the bullet and emailed the wonderful Lynette Lewis and Jen Ramos, two amazing women I had met in 2013 on a trip to New York. Their lives had inspired me so much so I thought I would connect with them and share my heart and let them know I might be coming to the city later in the year. Speaking out your dream is like sowing a seed. I believe those emails written in faith shifted my dream from ‘something in my head’ to ‘something that was actually happening!’. Here’s a pic of the lovely Jen and I…

And spending some time with the beautiful Lynette…

And this is when my friend Nic came for a visit!

So with my own little ‘schedule and plan’ in place, I soon discovered that quick answers are not always God’s plan. (Ha!) So as the months went on I kept declaring anything can happen, telling people about this dream and speaking it out, and declaring it over myself. There were days where I openly said to The Lord, “um… okay… I’m not sure what the delay is here? I am not really hearing anything from you, so I guess I’m not supposed to go to New York.” But even on the days when I wasn’t sure, I always had a feeling deep in my gut, drawing me to there. So from January until August my declaration was that “somehow” I was going to New York for two months to write my book.

So even though I was declaring in faith that anything could happen, many many things were taking my attention and causing me to worry. All of a sudden the initial joy of going on such a wild adventure was overtaken with fear and anxiety. Thoughts like “oh no, Nat you’re not going to make any friends. Where are you going to live? Your apartment is going to be miles from anywhere and it’s not going to be beautiful at all. Um, and how are you going to write a book?”

What the heck?! Clearly these are lies. I am sure you have experienced something like this as you have stepped out in faith. How annoying is it?! But these lies were just confirmations I was on the right track, and if you are experiencing thoughts like this, then so are you!

So now I am looking back at what has taken place. Honestly my friends, it’s been the most extravagant, ridiculous adventure of my life and I can’t wait to share more of it with you as the weeks go on. I have written so much of the book “Anything Can Happen”, which is great, but as always God has gone above and beyond with friendships, my apartment, and more extravagant and fancy outings and experiences than I could ever have imagined in my lifetime.

So let me encourage you (and me too for this new season!) let’s stir it up and see these amazing dreams in our hearts come to pass!! Here are some things that helped me see my dream happen this year.

1. Understand the power of your declaration.

2. Keep the vision in front of you. (Hab 2:2)

3. Shift your thinking to the point where you believe anything can actually happen.  (Romans 12:2)

4. Take the limits off financially, mentally, emotionally, logistically, geographically and physically.

5. Have specific dreams and be specific with God in asking for them.

6. Picture it in your mind and keep seeing it until it comes to pass.

7. Expect crazy, ridiculous favour.

So be ready, things are shifting in your life and I am excited for you! Have a wonderful week ahead!

Lots of love to you 🙂

Love Nat xoxo

Love from NYC :: Encouragement for you.

Hello my lovely friend, how are you? I’m sitting here in a little cafe in TriBeCa, and I just felt to encourage you. 🙂 Wherever you are in the world, whatever time it is that you are reading these words, I want to let you know that you are amazing. I don’t know if you’ve heard it lately, but you are doing a great job 🙂 In all the different areas you are juggling, all the dreams, the hopes, the friendships, the responsibilities… in all these things you are sowing beautiful seeds that are reaping a rich and wonderful harvest. So whatever is on your mind today, know that it’s precious to The Lord. It may be something you are excited about, or it might something you are worried about, but whatever it is, his promise to you today is this…

“I will perfect that which concerns you” Psalm 138:8

What a beautiful promise to know that no matter what we go through, He is on our side. So be encouraged today my dear friend… YOU are doing a fabulous job! Look at all the things you are doing, and then turn around and see how far you’ve come 🙂 I pray for surprise blessings and favour to come your way today, and that you’d be filled with the hope of a God who loves you and is cheering you on!

And I’m cheering you on too woo hoo!

Sending staccccckkkkks of love to from NYC… 😉

Flourish no matter what :)

But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.

They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.

It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.

It has no worries in a year of drought, and never fails to bear fruit. 🙂

Hi friends, just a little encouragement for your week. Whatever you are doing, wherever you are going (even if you have no idea where your path might be leading and it’s a little bit scary!)… let’s choose to trust him this week. He is cheering us on in all that we do and his promise is that when we trust him we flourish no matter what.

Lots of love to you from NYC 😉

Love from NYC :: One at a time.

This morning walking back from the gym I noticed a lovely elderly man standing on the street corner with a stick, as he was hard of seeing. Instantly I my heart was moved with compassion. As the “walk” sign flashed, he stood there waiting. Waiting for help, waiting for a sound, I’m not sure. As I looked at people walking across the street and past him I felt shocked and saddened. I pulled my earplugs out, took my sunglasses off and walked over to him, asking him if he needed some help crossing the street. He replied that he did and he put his arm out for me to link arms with him. As we walked across the street, arm in arm, I asked his name. “My name’s Arnold” he said smiling. I introduced myself and he said “Natalie, it’s a pleasure knowing you.” What a beautiful thing to say. 🙂

I’m tearing up a little bit writing this actually, wishing I had have prayed for him. But me feeling guilty about not doing enough is not God’s heart. It’s not about that. It’s about me just loving people with God’s love and stepping out when I see real opportunities to show them this love. And that’s what I did.

Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful,
and endures through every circumstance. 1 Corinthians 13:7

Sometimes we make it overcomplicated just helping people don’t we? Sometimes we get overwhelmed with the need. I know I do! Let me tell you New York is an amazing city but it’s devastating seeing so many people in need. I’m constantly thinking, “oh my gosh how can I help everyone?!” I can’t help everyone, but I can help one. One at a time. One today, one tomorrow. Lord I pray you would release your love and your healing power over Arnold and over every person reading these words. 🙂

So let’s take the pressure off and just love person one at a time. Jesus did that. He always went after the one, and he still does today. Let’s ignore guilt and let love lead the way. Cos love always wins. Always!

Love you guys, Nat xo

Love from NYC :: Stay in your lane.

Well hello my lovelies sending you a hug from NYC! How is your week going? Well I’m about to put the kettle on and have a cuppa… wanna join me?! Imagine if we could do that! Oh my gosh it would be very fun 🙂 So I have been in this fabulous city for about a week and a half now and boy is everyone right when they say it’s the city of dreams! Woh woh woh yes sirree! I seriously think if you took all the power from the speed people walk in this city and put it together we could power an entire country! Here are a just a few of them chilling in Bryant Park today…

And here’s the jazz pianist playing fabulous music.

Of course NYC a city full of inspiration, dreams, ambition, which is why I wanted to come here… everyone literally believes that anything is possible. But another thing I have felt whilst I am here is to really focus on “staying in my lane”, and not getting caught up with trying to run someone else’s race.

Inspiration comes from everywhere, but at times I find the line between inspiration and comparison is quite fine. Do you ever find that? I mean, we spend SO much of our lives online these days, there is so much information out there, but when I have crossed that line I get a little check in my spirit. No matter where I am or what I am doing, the moment I begin to feel my joy being robbed I know something is up. If I suddenly feel insecure, intimidated, fearful or I start judging myself to see whether what I am doing is good enough… I have to stop right there and step away.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes it happens when I don’t even realise it! Then all of a sudden I feel totally terrible and I am knee deep in “oh my gosh this person is doing that, I need to do this and this and this?!” Um, NO. No you don’t. All you need to do is focus on being the amazing, creative, inspiring and fabulous person God created you to be. There is no one on earth like you. There is no one on earth like me. And if you try and be me and I try and be you, then we are both going to fail miserably! But, if we stay in our lane and focus on what we do best, then we are going to flourish and we are going to fly baby 🙂

You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

You are amazing. Of all the people walking on this planet there is not a single one like you. Just look at us! I mean, as I write these words I am thinking of you guys reading this blog. Each of you are incredible, with your own amazing gifts and abilities, and today you are going to go out into this world and release your creativity and amazing-ness!! (Not sure if that is actually a word!) Anyway, the world needs what you have to give… so get out there and run!

So, what do you say? Wanna join me and stay in our own lanes and be amazing?

Love Nat xoxo

A constant in every season.

Good morning my lovely friends 🙂 I’m sending love to you from New York City! Happy Tuesday for the Aussies and happy Monday to us here in the northern hemisphere… I am writing this post from the bedroom of my beautiful first floor apartment, red geraniums are smiling at me on the balcony as I look down to the tree-lined street below. Here’s me watering them the other morning…

So… I have travelled quite a distance since my last blog. After Vancouver I boarded The Canadian train for a three day journey across Canada to Toronto. Oh my gosh, what an amazing experience it was. Sailing through the Rockies, past gorgeous fields and prairies, and just having some time to reflect on a busy but wonderful past month travelling through Alaska and Canada. And now here I am in my beloved NYC! I arrived last Thursday afternoon and am still pinching myself that I am here. Hello NY Public Library 🙂

And here’s my beautiful street…

I chuckled to myself as I powered up Park Avenue through the crowd the other day, two overflowing Wholefoods paper grocery bags in hand, overtaking people at lightening speed and feeling completely like a local! Hey, when in Rome…

Here’s the view from my apartment at night… very inspiring I think 🙂

Washington Square Park on a balmy night…

Such a great atmosphere with street performers everywhere…

So I’m here and it’s wonderful, but as with any new season, mixed emotions often follow along. Over the past four days I have been overwhelmed with joy and excitement that I am finally back here in this city I love, but I have also found myself faced with fear and uncertainty. Being a very organised person, I like things to be in order and planned out, but when you’re in a new city, out of your comfort zone, with nothing familiar around you, this is sometimes not as easy to do as it may be back home. 🙂 So I’ve had to shift things around a little bit and reassess. This morning (after a restless sleep due to a silly migraine) I spent the morning just reading my bible and sitting in God’s presence. Ah, it was honestly like water to my soul.

His presence is everything. What a gift hey. When the busyness and craziness of life is whirling around us, we can feel so out of control, but the wonderful thing is that no matter how far off course we might spin, he is always right there waiting for us. And his presence is a breath of fresh air. It’s a constant and sure thing in our lives and it never, ever changes.

Are you in a new season? Or feeling like you are in transition? Or maybe you have just been in this season for such a long time you are not sure what to do next? Well, whatever you are facing, let’s both be encouraged… as we navigate new territory, journeying this day set before us, let’s be aware that we are pioneering a brave and new path. My friends, we are doing a great job and all of heaven is cheering us on. We are not alone in this… So today, know that you are loved by me and that I am cheering you on in whatever season you are in! < Insert big group hug here! > Here’s me sending you love from my little home in New York 🙂 xxxxx

My heart for this blog is to build a community of friends near and far, who can encourage each other and cheer one another on as we dare to chase the things in our hearts. So if you have some encouragement to share, feel free to send it our way. What greatness is ahead of us! I love you all and am sending you a big hug today from NYC 🙂

Have an amazing day my friend.

PS  – And a HUGE shout out to my dear friend Louise! Happy happy birthday babe!!

PPS –  And this is me looking like a local heading out of my apartment the other night ha ha…

Just stay in the moment.

Hi friends how are you?! 🙂 After a few weeks travelling along Alaska’s Inside Passage visiting Haines, Wrangell and Prince Rupert then through the Rockies, I’m now in Vancouver. Ah I love this city. Well, it does help that it’s summer and the weather is stunnnn-ning at the moment 🙂

So do you ever find yourself thinking ahead and planning for the next thing, while you’re actually still in the middle of something else? Well I do. It’s kind of like I’m half enjoying the moment, but then I’m half in the future at the same time. Do you know what I mean? Anyway, last night after a few long travel days, I went for a run along the waterfront. I wanted to make the most of the balmy summer night and it was just so gorgeous. After running for a bit, I sat down on a bench overlooking the marina at Coal Harbour, when suddenly my mind began to tick.

One second I was running along the water, the wind in my hair, enjoying the moment, and then all of a sudden I was in a spiral of thoughts twirling around and around like a tornado. Thoughts like, “okay tomorrow we’re doing this… and then next week I have to arrange this… and then next weekend I’ll be getting to New York… and then oh my gosh I have to arrange that…” What the heck?! And all the while I was sitting on a stunning harbour, looking at this view…

Then I heard that still small voice say…
Nat, stay in the moment. 🙂

Oh my gosh! That very second I wanted to slap myself! There I was watching one of the most breathtaking sights of my adventure thus far… and my mind was off with the pixies! So right away I captured my ‘slightly-psycho’ runaway thoughts and I stopped. As if talking to a child I said to myself, “okay Nat, look where you are now and let’s just stay here. Instantly my eyes were drawn to a boat sailing away in the distance. Then to some ducks swimming leaving a ripple behind. Then I spotted some girlfriends walking along laughing. Then along came some kids skipping. I inhaled a big breath and just sat.

How much more is there for us when we actually stay in the moment? We need to be aware, because tomorrow often tries to rob today of it’s joy. But let’s not worry about tomorrow, or next week, or next month. “Let us not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition, definite requests with thanksgiving, continue to make our requests known to God” 🙂  And his peace shall be yours. That peace which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”  What a promise hey. 🙂

So let’s stay in the moment today. Take a moment to go for a walk… Grab a coffee on your own and just people watch… Put your phone away and look up to the sky (it’s amazing how gorgeous the tops of buildings are if you just look!)… Go to a new park at lunchtime and lay on the grass… Spend ten minutes chatting to someone new… Stop and take in the view around you…

You don’t have to rush ahead. You have permission to stop and enjoy now, because all too soon that moment will be gone. I have four days left leading this tour, but I am not thinking about what’s ahead, I’m thinking about now. We are about to head out on a city tour of Vancouver which will be fun. So I am going to stop in each moment, enjoy every new sight and smell… and hang out with some amazing people.

Have an awesome day my friends. Sending you lots of love from Canada 🙂
