Love from NYC :: One at a time.

This morning walking back from the gym I noticed a lovely elderly man standing on the street corner with a stick, as he was hard of seeing. Instantly I my heart was moved with compassion. As the “walk” sign flashed, he stood there waiting. Waiting for help, waiting for a sound, I’m not sure. As I looked at people walking across the street and past him I felt shocked and saddened. I pulled my earplugs out, took my sunglasses off and walked over to him, asking him if he needed some help crossing the street. He replied that he did and he put his arm out for me to link arms with him. As we walked across the street, arm in arm, I asked his name. “My name’s Arnold” he said smiling. I introduced myself and he said “Natalie, it’s a pleasure knowing you.” What a beautiful thing to say. 🙂

I’m tearing up a little bit writing this actually, wishing I had have prayed for him. But me feeling guilty about not doing enough is not God’s heart. It’s not about that. It’s about me just loving people with God’s love and stepping out when I see real opportunities to show them this love. And that’s what I did.

Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful,
and endures through every circumstance. 1 Corinthians 13:7

Sometimes we make it overcomplicated just helping people don’t we? Sometimes we get overwhelmed with the need. I know I do! Let me tell you New York is an amazing city but it’s devastating seeing so many people in need. I’m constantly thinking, “oh my gosh how can I help everyone?!” I can’t help everyone, but I can help one. One at a time. One today, one tomorrow. Lord I pray you would release your love and your healing power over Arnold and over every person reading these words. 🙂

So let’s take the pressure off and just love person one at a time. Jesus did that. He always went after the one, and he still does today. Let’s ignore guilt and let love lead the way. Cos love always wins. Always!

Love you guys, Nat xo

Love from NYC :: Stay in your lane.

Well hello my lovelies sending you a hug from NYC! How is your week going? Well I’m about to put the kettle on and have a cuppa… wanna join me?! Imagine if we could do that! Oh my gosh it would be very fun 🙂 So I have been in this fabulous city for about a week and a half now and boy is everyone right when they say it’s the city of dreams! Woh woh woh yes sirree! I seriously think if you took all the power from the speed people walk in this city and put it together we could power an entire country! Here are a just a few of them chilling in Bryant Park today…

And here’s the jazz pianist playing fabulous music.

Of course NYC a city full of inspiration, dreams, ambition, which is why I wanted to come here… everyone literally believes that anything is possible. But another thing I have felt whilst I am here is to really focus on “staying in my lane”, and not getting caught up with trying to run someone else’s race.

Inspiration comes from everywhere, but at times I find the line between inspiration and comparison is quite fine. Do you ever find that? I mean, we spend SO much of our lives online these days, there is so much information out there, but when I have crossed that line I get a little check in my spirit. No matter where I am or what I am doing, the moment I begin to feel my joy being robbed I know something is up. If I suddenly feel insecure, intimidated, fearful or I start judging myself to see whether what I am doing is good enough… I have to stop right there and step away.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes it happens when I don’t even realise it! Then all of a sudden I feel totally terrible and I am knee deep in “oh my gosh this person is doing that, I need to do this and this and this?!” Um, NO. No you don’t. All you need to do is focus on being the amazing, creative, inspiring and fabulous person God created you to be. There is no one on earth like you. There is no one on earth like me. And if you try and be me and I try and be you, then we are both going to fail miserably! But, if we stay in our lane and focus on what we do best, then we are going to flourish and we are going to fly baby 🙂

You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

You are amazing. Of all the people walking on this planet there is not a single one like you. Just look at us! I mean, as I write these words I am thinking of you guys reading this blog. Each of you are incredible, with your own amazing gifts and abilities, and today you are going to go out into this world and release your creativity and amazing-ness!! (Not sure if that is actually a word!) Anyway, the world needs what you have to give… so get out there and run!

So, what do you say? Wanna join me and stay in our own lanes and be amazing?

Love Nat xoxo

5 ways to rest.

Welcome to Monday my friends, annnnd if you are in Australia this will be a particularly happy Monday for you… hello public holiday! A big thank you to Her Majesty The Queen for having a birthday that we can celebrate 🙂 And not just the queen… my gorgeous Nanna Joy also celebrated her 92nd birthday yesterday… isn’t she beautiful? xx

So my friends, how has your week been? I hope you’ve had a good one! Mine has been slightly different to say the least. I’ve actually spent the past six days resting, kinda like this little guy.

Nothing serious, my body has just been exhausted due to a serious iron deficiency. Before I found out what it was I actually thought I was going crazy! Anyway, this week has consisted of mostly laying flat on the couch, taking lots of supplements and guzzling what feels like an ocean of water. But all I have to say is God knows what he is doing. “He always works all things together for those who love him and are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). Isn’t it funny… when you’re sick you need to rest, which at the time can be annoying and a bit of an inconvenience, (um, hello?! Things to do, people to see!)… but then in the end, the rest actually winds up being a total blessing, allowing you to look at your schedule and perhaps put new things in place.

So after running a million bazillion miles an hour, this week has actually given me a chance to slow down, stop, and listen to his still small voice again. 🙂 So let me encourage you, today and this week, make the time and take the time to rest. Here a few little ways…

Be kind to yourself. :)

Hello my friends! I’ve missed you guys… how have you been? I hope you had a Happy Easter! What a special time it was… I watched most of The Passion of The Christ on Good Friday, I watch it every year. I love to really take that time to remember what he actually did for me. Ah, it messes me up every time, but then, I guess that’s the point isn’t it. 😉 If you haven’t watched it in a while, I highly recommend it. xox

So I’ve got something kinda funny to share. Last night, I picked up my little beach chair and sat in the garden in the rain. Do you ever do that? Sit in the rain? In the dark? It’s not really the ‘normal‘ thing to do is it? Well anyway, I did. My initial plan was to throw the ball for the dog quickly and then come inside. But as soon as I felt the rain on my face, it was like water to my soul. Literally. 🙂 As I sat there, head facing up, eyes closed, I was thinking, “Should I go inside? Come on, this is a bit silly. I’m getting wet here.” But then I thought, “Hello, what’s the worst thing that can happen? = I get wet and I put a new jumper on.” So basically, in the grand scheme of things… not that bad.
And the best thing that could happen was that I would be refreshed.
So I stayed… I just sat there in my backyard, in the dark, looking like this…
Those little droplets of rest and refreshing were just what I needed in that exact moment.
I was refreshed when I least expected it. So imagine what can happen when we actually expect to be refreshed?! What do you need at the moment? Rest? Joy? Faith? Refreshing? Healing? A good girly chat with a bestie? Well good news…
No matter what season, no matter what we are facing, no matter how busy and overwhelmed we may feel, he is always there to restore us!

So with his voice in mind, let me encourage you today.
1. Be kind to yourself.
Listen to your body and rest when you need to.

2. Expect to be refreshed.
Don’t be so quick to dismiss surprise opportunities just because they may be ‘out of the ordinary’.

3. Always listen to his leading.
Even if it is to dance in the rain!

Praying you have a beautiful day today, always listening for his voice as he cheers you on.

And a huge happy birthday to my Papa Fred who is turning 90 years old today! 😉

What are you waiting for. Just do it.

What is it you love to do? What’s that thing
The thing that makes you come alive and filled with joy. Do you know?
Sometimes it feels like time goes forever. And we’ll be here forever.
And have plenty of time to do all the things we dream of. But it doesn’t. And we won’t.
Life is actually quick. It’s a vapour.
I don’t mean to sound all morbid or anything, but this is LIFE we are talking about here! Your life. 🙂
Do you love your life? Are you thriving? And flourishing?
What is it that makes you feel alive?
When you’re creating? Or designing? Or building? Or helping? Or planning? Or writing?
Or teaching? Or listening? Or parenting? Or encouraging? Or exploring?
Well for me, it’s encouraging people to recognise how amazing they are. To see what desires they have in their hearts, and to encourage them to be everything they have been called to be. Everyone has a dream. You do. And even writing this makes me feel so passionate to encourage you right now! As you read these very words I pray God begins to awaken something new in YOU.
I want to let you know something.
Before he breathed the stars, God created you. You. He designed you with perfection. Unique and unlike anyone else who would ever walk this earth. He placed specific, precious desires in your heart, things only you can do and things that will make your heart come alive when you do them.
So what are you waiting for?!
It’s your turn to dream my friend. Cos guess what… 🙂
Abundance is God’s normalWe are often satisfied with ‘pretty good’ or ‘near enough’ – but God is extravagant. He’s not happy with 5 days of you working in a job you don’t love and 2 days of ‘I wish this weekend would last forever so I never have to go back to work’. He wants you thriving every moment. So come on, it’s time to take that leap!
Just DO it. Okay? Whatever is in your heart… remember, it’s never too late, too early, you’re never too old, too young, too serious, too loud, too quiet, too busy. NO excuses.
(Seriously I am going to follow up on this and check back on you okay?!)

Have an amazing Tuesday friends. Stir it up!

Love Nat xoxo

Lessons I learnt from my Grandma.

Yesterday we celebrated the wonderful life of my precious Grandma Beryl. She passed away on Sunday morning, her very favourite day of the week 🙂 And now she is rejoicing in heaven. It’s been quite an intense two weeks, but amidst the sadness and sorrow, I have been amazed and thankful for the precious gift of family and friends. Why is it that when we face sadness and tragedy, we just want to be surrounded by people we love? Well, it’s because love heals. 🙂 It brings truth and hope and “peace that surpasses our understanding”…  so even in the midst of a storm, LOVE will always carry us through.
I love that. Love bears all things. To bear = is to support or carry the weight of something, to endure an ordeal or difficulty, to hold up and remain firm under a load. My Grandma definitely loved well. She loved God with all her heart, so it flowed through to me and everyone else she knew.

This is a little snippet of what I shared yesterday:

“I just loved being around Grandma. Whether it was for cups of tea or chats, I would always leave her house feel so encouraged, loved and filled with joy. When I was with her, it felt like time slowed down. Her love drew me there, and the busyness of life just stopped as I entered her beautiful space.

The simplest things brought her so much joy, and she saw beauty in everything. Thinking about this has really challenged me; to see joy in the simple things, to make it a priority to always release the love of God wherever I go, and to spend as much quality time as I can  with people I love. Because do you know what? At the end of the day… loving and being loved is all that matters.”

So, here are some of the things I have learnt from Grandma. 🙂

1. Don’t wait until someone is ‘gone’ to recognise their incredible qualities.
2. Make the most of every moment.
3. Love well and extravagantly.
4. Give generously from a pure and transformed heart.
5. Love every friend and family member as if it’s the last time you’ll see them.
6. Bring peace to every situation.
7. Prioritise spending quality time with loved ones.
8. Encourage others always.
9. Everyday, tell your friends and family how much you love them.
10. Take LOTS of photos.
I’m so thankful for the blessing my Grandma has been in my life. I can hardly believe it’s actually true. I’m going to miss her so very much, but I know I will see her again. 🙂

Bless you my friends and have a wonderful day!! 🙂

Anything Can Happen ~ Book Sneak Peek { Come Up Here }

Hi guys, happy Tuesday 🙂 Well, I’ve been writing away and I wanted to encourage you with another little sneak peek into my book. This snippet is from the chapter “Come Up Here… Because Anything Can Happen“. I hope it blesses you! Love Nat xox

ANYTHING  CAN  HAPPEN

{ c o m e   u p   h e r e }

“When architects design buildings, plans are put into place with exceptional attention to detail, most likely incorporating many drafts. Workers on these enormous and complex projects must frequently liaise with the head architect, constantly referring to their original plans. What purpose would the plan be if the engineers looked at it once, and then proceeded to undertake a major project with no communication or discussions with the architects? That would be disastrous! Who would even think of doing that?! Surely no one right?
Our God is the perfect architect. Overseeing the hugest project in all eternity, he created the universe and everything in it.  One of my favourite scriptures is Revelation 4:1.
Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this“.
He stretches out the stars over northern space, he hangs the earth on nothing“.

God is constantly inviting us to ‘go up’ and hang out with him so we can see his plan from his grand perspective. However, how many times do we try and ‘get the job done’ without referring back to our ‘head architect’?! It sounds crazy but we do this! So… now is the time to shift our focus. As we go up higher, everything is much clearer. We get a birds eye view of our whole life, all the noise and busyness is gone and we can see things from his perspective.

Just stop for a moment and imagine the plans for God’s “earth project”. Think of every person on earth. There is a plan currently in place for each of them. Every living and breathing creature has been created with great love and purpose. So just as engineers must continue to refer back to the plan and liaise with their head architect, we must incline our ear to God’s invitation to “come up here”. As we soar, everything becomes much clearer.

As we look up to our heavenly Dad, all fear and discouragement goes…
and everything shifts.
It’s pretty simple really. When we’re focused on ourself, and what’s happening around us (or not happening in some cases), we can’t see properly. Our thinking is limited and we’re basically giving discouragement and disappointment an open door. So what do we do?
It’s only when we stop and look around at the bigger picture that we can see with perspective. What is your circumstance at the moment? Maybe it’s an overwhelming situation. Maybe you need vision or direction. Maybe you just need a flat out miracle. Well, take a deep breath and listen to his voice. He wants to give you peace today. Can you hear him? He’s whispering to you, ‘Come up here’. :)”
I hope you enjoyed that little sneak peek 🙂 May you be blessed today.

Just stay on the path.

I was walking through the bush yesterday morning. Well technically, it’s not actually “the bush”, it’s actually suburbia… but it was like the bush. I live about two minutes from a beautiful 750 acre wilderness reserve called Braeside Park (if you want you can read a fun little story of a time my sister and I played in the playground!)… Anywayyyy, as I was walking I was just praying about life, you know those walks where you almost zoom out of yourself and you know something is happening, but you have no idea what it is? As I entered a denser part of the forest, thick ferns covered the ground like carpet. Apart from the five metres in front of me, the rest of the path had suddenly disappeared from view.
At that moment I felt God speak to me…
“Stay on the path Nat.”
Sometimes that’s all we can do, right? Just stay where we are. Keep walking. Keep being faithful. Keep focused. But how do we navigate this unknown journey? Well, friends… I am happy to say that no matter what season you might find yourself in, whether you can see a lot of the path or a little… just remember He is the same yesterday, today and forever. And regardless of your circumstances, God doesn’t change.
Are you someone who likes change? Or do you prefer things to stay the same?

Change = to make or become different.

Hmmm. Different? Is that what we really want? I mean New. Yes, yes we want new. Of course we do. But different? Change? Ah… I don’t know about that? New is exciting. But change, ah… change means ‘out of my comfort zone’ type stuff and ‘can’t see the path ahead of me’ kinda stuff. And that’s scary. But friends, let me tell you, we have stepped into something brand new. Something fresh is happening, something we have never experienced before. And with that new thing (whether we like it or not), comes change. So here are three tips to stay encouraged in this season, even when we can’t see the path ahead. 🙂

1. Stay on the path.

2. Lift your eyes.

3. Lean on him.
Proverbs 3 tells us to “Trust in the Lord with all our heart, and to not lean on our own understanding“. Our Father’s great promise is that if we lean on HIM, and acknowledge him, that he will direct our paths. Leaning is pretty easy don’t you think? I mean, think about it, it’s just a transferral of weight from one thing to another. So as we ‘transfer the weight of our burdens’ on him, he takes them and “makes our path straight

I pray you have a beautiful day today my friend.
Be encouraged to know that whatever part of the path you are on…
Jesus is right there with you and is lighting even more of it up right now!
Love Nat x

Nothing Can Stop God’s Plan For Your Life.

It’s true! And even though sometimes it feels like things are taking their time, or plans are not happening, things are always, always, always in motion. Think about a musical or a play, behind the scenes is usually even more busy than what’s happening ON the stage. So right now, as you are reading these very words, God is busy at work behind the scenes of your life, working and weaving everything together according to his wonderful plan. Below is the architect’s blueprint by Walt Disney Imagineering for the Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom, Disney World. Just as this castle was meticulously planned before it was built… the blueprint for YOUR life has already been planned, not only before you were born, but before God even said “let there be light.” Ha ha I feel the little girl in me getting a just a little bit excited about this pic…
And you know what? And once the plan is in place, there is actually nothing that can stop it. I’ve been sick with a silly throat infection the last three days, and last night as I was laying in bed, eight words just flashed into my mind like lightning. Nothing can stop God’s plan for my life. So what does this mean for us? We all have dreams and desires in our hearts, we’re believing and declaring, and often waiting for things to come to pass, but what we can see is “the stage”. We can’t see “behind the scenes”. Anyway, last night as those eight words of truth exploded into my mind, they took over every negative thought, doubt and question and released a flood of hope and encouragement. So in addition to coughing and spluttering, I was also very encouraged last night! And I pray that as you read these words the same thing will happen to you. May be filled with fresh hope today! Xx

Did you realise, without you even thinking about it, the sun rose this morning?
Nothing could stop it.
And guess what, it’s going to set tonight. Nothing can stop it.
Think about the last beach you went to… even though you’re long gone,
those waves are still coming in. Nothing can stop them.
In Winter, the snow is going to fall. Nothing can stop it.
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven…
And do not return to it without watering the earth…
Making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater…
So is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will NOT return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:10)
So just like nothing can stop the sun rising, or setting, or the waves coming in, or the seasons changing… NOTHING can stop His plan for your life! It might seem slow in coming to pass but…

So be encouraged today okay. Things are happening! Behind the scenes, right at this very moment, God is busy at work, preparing, planning, weaving and working things together so you can be released into the glorious destiny he has for you. There is no other day like today, and something amazing is awaiting you.

Always cheering you on… Nat x

Ps… here is what the Cinderella Castle looks like after being built… from the blueprint.

Pretty amazing hey.
