Love from NYC :: Stay in your lane.

Well hello my lovelies sending you a hug from NYC! How is your week going? Well I’m about to put the kettle on and have a cuppa… wanna join me?! Imagine if we could do that! Oh my gosh it would be very fun 🙂 So I have been in this fabulous city for about a week and a half now and boy is everyone right when they say it’s the city of dreams! Woh woh woh yes sirree! I seriously think if you took all the power from the speed people walk in this city and put it together we could power an entire country! Here are a just a few of them chilling in Bryant Park today…

And here’s the jazz pianist playing fabulous music.

Of course NYC a city full of inspiration, dreams, ambition, which is why I wanted to come here… everyone literally believes that anything is possible. But another thing I have felt whilst I am here is to really focus on “staying in my lane”, and not getting caught up with trying to run someone else’s race.

Inspiration comes from everywhere, but at times I find the line between inspiration and comparison is quite fine. Do you ever find that? I mean, we spend SO much of our lives online these days, there is so much information out there, but when I have crossed that line I get a little check in my spirit. No matter where I am or what I am doing, the moment I begin to feel my joy being robbed I know something is up. If I suddenly feel insecure, intimidated, fearful or I start judging myself to see whether what I am doing is good enough… I have to stop right there and step away.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes it happens when I don’t even realise it! Then all of a sudden I feel totally terrible and I am knee deep in “oh my gosh this person is doing that, I need to do this and this and this?!” Um, NO. No you don’t. All you need to do is focus on being the amazing, creative, inspiring and fabulous person God created you to be. There is no one on earth like you. There is no one on earth like me. And if you try and be me and I try and be you, then we are both going to fail miserably! But, if we stay in our lane and focus on what we do best, then we are going to flourish and we are going to fly baby 🙂

You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

You are amazing. Of all the people walking on this planet there is not a single one like you. Just look at us! I mean, as I write these words I am thinking of you guys reading this blog. Each of you are incredible, with your own amazing gifts and abilities, and today you are going to go out into this world and release your creativity and amazing-ness!! (Not sure if that is actually a word!) Anyway, the world needs what you have to give… so get out there and run!

So, what do you say? Wanna join me and stay in our own lanes and be amazing?

Love Nat xoxo

Be kind to yourself. :)

Hello my friends! I’ve missed you guys… how have you been? I hope you had a Happy Easter! What a special time it was… I watched most of The Passion of The Christ on Good Friday, I watch it every year. I love to really take that time to remember what he actually did for me. Ah, it messes me up every time, but then, I guess that’s the point isn’t it. 😉 If you haven’t watched it in a while, I highly recommend it. xox

So I’ve got something kinda funny to share. Last night, I picked up my little beach chair and sat in the garden in the rain. Do you ever do that? Sit in the rain? In the dark? It’s not really the ‘normal‘ thing to do is it? Well anyway, I did. My initial plan was to throw the ball for the dog quickly and then come inside. But as soon as I felt the rain on my face, it was like water to my soul. Literally. 🙂 As I sat there, head facing up, eyes closed, I was thinking, “Should I go inside? Come on, this is a bit silly. I’m getting wet here.” But then I thought, “Hello, what’s the worst thing that can happen? = I get wet and I put a new jumper on.” So basically, in the grand scheme of things… not that bad.
And the best thing that could happen was that I would be refreshed.
So I stayed… I just sat there in my backyard, in the dark, looking like this…
Those little droplets of rest and refreshing were just what I needed in that exact moment.
I was refreshed when I least expected it. So imagine what can happen when we actually expect to be refreshed?! What do you need at the moment? Rest? Joy? Faith? Refreshing? Healing? A good girly chat with a bestie? Well good news…
No matter what season, no matter what we are facing, no matter how busy and overwhelmed we may feel, he is always there to restore us!

So with his voice in mind, let me encourage you today.
1. Be kind to yourself.
Listen to your body and rest when you need to.

2. Expect to be refreshed.
Don’t be so quick to dismiss surprise opportunities just because they may be ‘out of the ordinary’.

3. Always listen to his leading.
Even if it is to dance in the rain!

Praying you have a beautiful day today, always listening for his voice as he cheers you on.

And a huge happy birthday to my Papa Fred who is turning 90 years old today! 😉

Lessons I learnt from my Grandma.

Yesterday we celebrated the wonderful life of my precious Grandma Beryl. She passed away on Sunday morning, her very favourite day of the week 🙂 And now she is rejoicing in heaven. It’s been quite an intense two weeks, but amidst the sadness and sorrow, I have been amazed and thankful for the precious gift of family and friends. Why is it that when we face sadness and tragedy, we just want to be surrounded by people we love? Well, it’s because love heals. 🙂 It brings truth and hope and “peace that surpasses our understanding”…  so even in the midst of a storm, LOVE will always carry us through.
I love that. Love bears all things. To bear = is to support or carry the weight of something, to endure an ordeal or difficulty, to hold up and remain firm under a load. My Grandma definitely loved well. She loved God with all her heart, so it flowed through to me and everyone else she knew.

This is a little snippet of what I shared yesterday:

“I just loved being around Grandma. Whether it was for cups of tea or chats, I would always leave her house feel so encouraged, loved and filled with joy. When I was with her, it felt like time slowed down. Her love drew me there, and the busyness of life just stopped as I entered her beautiful space.

The simplest things brought her so much joy, and she saw beauty in everything. Thinking about this has really challenged me; to see joy in the simple things, to make it a priority to always release the love of God wherever I go, and to spend as much quality time as I can  with people I love. Because do you know what? At the end of the day… loving and being loved is all that matters.”

So, here are some of the things I have learnt from Grandma. 🙂

1. Don’t wait until someone is ‘gone’ to recognise their incredible qualities.
2. Make the most of every moment.
3. Love well and extravagantly.
4. Give generously from a pure and transformed heart.
5. Love every friend and family member as if it’s the last time you’ll see them.
6. Bring peace to every situation.
7. Prioritise spending quality time with loved ones.
8. Encourage others always.
9. Everyday, tell your friends and family how much you love them.
10. Take LOTS of photos.
I’m so thankful for the blessing my Grandma has been in my life. I can hardly believe it’s actually true. I’m going to miss her so very much, but I know I will see her again. 🙂

Bless you my friends and have a wonderful day!! 🙂

Joy is the Benchmark.

How’s your joy level today? On a scale of 1 – 10… what number would you say it would be? 10…? 8…? Maybe lower? Well I’ve been thinking a lot about joy lately. I don’t really think we are living up to our ‘true joy potential’… and quite frankly, I want more!
So I have decided to redefine joy in my life. It’s no longer a luxurious experience, enjoyed infrequently and randomly. Not no no… I have decided that joy is as normal as breathing, and there’s plenty of it going around. Joy is our benchmark.
Definition of bench-mark: (n).
‘The point of reference from which a measurement may be made’.
And everything flows from joy. 🙂
Joy isn’t an unachievable goal hidden away from us on a top shelf somewhere. It’s how God created us to live, and walk and experience life every day. It’s the BENCHMARK. It’s the minimum. And there’s actually more available than we think…
Think about a time when you have felt overwhelmed with joy. Go through it in your mind. Have you got it?! Well that feeling… that is your normal! So start expecting it. Abundant means ‘to exist in plentiful supply, to be present in great quantity, and to be abounding’. So, if God has promised us ‘life more abundantly’, then abundance is what it shall be!’
So what’s stopping us? We need to renew our minds and change our benchmark.
JOY is your normal from now on. And remember…
So each morning you get a brand new fresh batch. I’ve actually just written an article about joy in the latest edition of Christian Woman Magazine, entitled 5 Ways to Be Refreshed By Joy This Christmas… feel free to have a little ‘squiz’ if you like? Have a wonderful ‘joy-filled’ Wednesday my friends!

7 sleeps to go…. hooray for Christmas 🙂

Wake with joy.

Thankfulness shifts things. Have you ever had a day where you’re feeling sorry for yourself? Maybe you’re sulking with your very best pout, (I’m sure none of you reading this blog have ever felt like that, he he…) then suddenly, something captures your attention. It might be something small; like tiny, pretty pink wildflowers poking out of the concrete on the side of the road, or a baby’s giggle, or perhaps it might be a elderly gentleman you’ve helped in the supermarket. Whatever’s happening, begin to thank God for it, let loose, and wait for that joy to come.
There is ALWAYS something we can be thankful for. 🙂 Just stop, even now. Have a look around you. Have a think. Imagine not being able to see? Or hear, or walk, or live. It’s almost unfathomable. We have SO much to be grateful for. What if, over the next few weeks, we purposed in our hearts to wake up each morning, and even before we open our eyes, to be thankful, and position ourselves for the day. All it takes from you is eight little words.
It’s true! And what a great time of year to release our joy. Even when sometimes we might feel like we’ve misplaced our joy, it’s not a surprise to him. He’s always got more for us! “In His presence there is fullness of joy”.
God is trying to get your attention today. He’s got surprises for you! Will you receive them? Imagine you’ve prepared a gift for someone, and you’re waiting excitedly for them to arrive so you can give it to them… well this is what our heavenly dad has done for us today!
So start the day afresh now: close your eyes,
think of something you can be thankful for… and wake with JOY.

Fun and joy and giggles.

Good morning happy Monday my friends! Well it’s Sunday where I am, but isn’t it funny that wherever you are in the world, there are usually other places ahead of you. And, no matter how hard you try, you can never catch up! I was thinking this is sometimes how we live, looking at others, where they at and what they are doing, instead living our own amazing lives. So instead of comparing with others, and always trying to ‘keep up’, it’s just better to take the pressure off, live in the moment and take in the view from where you’re sitting. This is me last week in Denali National Park. Not a bad view hey! 🙂
I love this image of the little girls above. It symbolises so much. Joy, excitement, dreaming, freedom, adventure, friendship, innocence, honesty, fun, love and trust. I wonder what they were doing just before this picture was snapped? Or what would have happened after? I bet there was laughter. I bet there were many girly giggles. And I am sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that there was no fear. 🙂 Would you like to be in this place? I would! So let’s come back to that place this week. Dancing, dreaming, excitement, freedom, adventure, fun, honesty, friendship, love, trust and JOY! This is a brand new week and great things have already been planned for you! I am heading to church this morning (yippee), then I am flying to Las Vegas to meet up with my sweet friend for our girly adventure! I just read this and it’s sooo encouraging! I declare it over you today. God can do anything, you know – far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams!”

Bless you and have a wonderful week! 🙂

Dreams come true.

Last night I was blessed to have met a beautiful lady who has inspired me for many years with her unbelievable talent and incredible stage presence. I was out for dinner with a girlfriend and into our restaurant walked Idina Menzel, the stunningly beautiful, Tony Award winning Broadway musical theatre queen. I know this seems like such a little thing, but it blessed my heart so much. What are the dreams inside your heart? Big or small, our great God wants to see them come to pass 🙂
It brings Him great joy to give us the desires of our hearts! Dreams, no matter how big or small, really do come true.. so don’t forget to ask today 😉

Take it easy.

Hey friends, happy Monday 🙂 How was your weekend? Melbourne was showing off with the bluest skies I’ve seen in a while.. how good was it?! Just a little reminder that winter solstice has now been and gone (hooray!) and we are now officially on the up.. and headed toward summer!
I am heading overseas in a week tomorrow (eek!) so I have had quite a full week/weekend preparing. I know it’s a pretty busy time for a lot of people at the moment, so today I thought it would be a great opportunity for us all to just take it easy. What do you think?! I’m not talking about “taking a day off” necessarily.. but I mean just putting aside that ‘never-ending’to-do-list’ for a few minutes and just allowing yourself to take a breath.
In busy times it’s easy for our minds to suddenly become filled with little thoughts, and before we know it we we’re overwhelmed and not sure what to do next! It’s bit like being in a traffic jam and not knowing how to get out… do you know what I mean?
But good news, there is a way out, and today is a new day. It’s a fresh start. A chance to transform our thinking and renew our minds. And today we are going to take it easy.
So my challenge to you, is to take your “to do lists” and “should do lists”,
set them aside for a moment… and just do this.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.
So today… in exchange for the busyness, there is peace for you.
You’ve just got to take it. 😉

Have a wonderful Monday taking it easy!

New strength today.

Hi friends happy Wednesday 🙂 Sorry I have been a little bit MIA over the past few days! I’ve been busy moving house, moving furniture into storage, sorting out clothes for my trip, cleaning my old house.. (and for those who have done that before, would totally agree it is not fun!!) Anyway, suffice to say my little eyes are slightly swollen, just a tad puffy, and my body is cheekily whispering to me “ummmm.. excuse me.. just wondering when we’re going to rest?” 🙂

Of course resting is essential (and I will be doing that believe me), but while “lying down” or “sleeping in” may give you some rest, it doesn’t take away your weariness and give you new strength. No. There is only One who can do this, only One who can lead us into this kind of supernatural exchange…
What season of life are you in at the moment? Do you need extra strength today? Well good news! The creator of the entire universe, the One who knit you together in your mother’s womb and knows every secret desire and dream of your heart, (even that one you thought of just when you read that!) is there with you right now, wherever it is you are reading this post.. and guess what…? He has NEW strength for you today.
It says in the bible that those who wait upon the Lord, their strength will be renewed.
…. And so our job is to wait expectantly. 🙂
And receive His joy. 🙂
So my challenge to us today, is to wait. To steal a few moments and just wait on Him.
Because He is true to His word and He will bring strength.
Today is going to be a great day! Our Dad in heaven loves us so much and has wonderful surprises in store for us. Tell me, what are YOU expecting to happen to you today?
