Love from NYC :: One at a time.

This morning walking back from the gym I noticed a lovely elderly man standing on the street corner with a stick, as he was hard of seeing. Instantly I my heart was moved with compassion. As the “walk” sign flashed, he stood there waiting. Waiting for help, waiting for a sound, I’m not sure. As I looked at people walking across the street and past him I felt shocked and saddened. I pulled my earplugs out, took my sunglasses off and walked over to him, asking him if he needed some help crossing the street. He replied that he did and he put his arm out for me to link arms with him. As we walked across the street, arm in arm, I asked his name. “My name’s Arnold” he said smiling. I introduced myself and he said “Natalie, it’s a pleasure knowing you.” What a beautiful thing to say. 🙂

I’m tearing up a little bit writing this actually, wishing I had have prayed for him. But me feeling guilty about not doing enough is not God’s heart. It’s not about that. It’s about me just loving people with God’s love and stepping out when I see real opportunities to show them this love. And that’s what I did.

Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful,
and endures through every circumstance. 1 Corinthians 13:7

Sometimes we make it overcomplicated just helping people don’t we? Sometimes we get overwhelmed with the need. I know I do! Let me tell you New York is an amazing city but it’s devastating seeing so many people in need. I’m constantly thinking, “oh my gosh how can I help everyone?!” I can’t help everyone, but I can help one. One at a time. One today, one tomorrow. Lord I pray you would release your love and your healing power over Arnold and over every person reading these words. 🙂

So let’s take the pressure off and just love person one at a time. Jesus did that. He always went after the one, and he still does today. Let’s ignore guilt and let love lead the way. Cos love always wins. Always!

Love you guys, Nat xo

Love from NYC :: Stay in your lane.

Well hello my lovelies sending you a hug from NYC! How is your week going? Well I’m about to put the kettle on and have a cuppa… wanna join me?! Imagine if we could do that! Oh my gosh it would be very fun 🙂 So I have been in this fabulous city for about a week and a half now and boy is everyone right when they say it’s the city of dreams! Woh woh woh yes sirree! I seriously think if you took all the power from the speed people walk in this city and put it together we could power an entire country! Here are a just a few of them chilling in Bryant Park today…

And here’s the jazz pianist playing fabulous music.

Of course NYC a city full of inspiration, dreams, ambition, which is why I wanted to come here… everyone literally believes that anything is possible. But another thing I have felt whilst I am here is to really focus on “staying in my lane”, and not getting caught up with trying to run someone else’s race.

Inspiration comes from everywhere, but at times I find the line between inspiration and comparison is quite fine. Do you ever find that? I mean, we spend SO much of our lives online these days, there is so much information out there, but when I have crossed that line I get a little check in my spirit. No matter where I am or what I am doing, the moment I begin to feel my joy being robbed I know something is up. If I suddenly feel insecure, intimidated, fearful or I start judging myself to see whether what I am doing is good enough… I have to stop right there and step away.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes it happens when I don’t even realise it! Then all of a sudden I feel totally terrible and I am knee deep in “oh my gosh this person is doing that, I need to do this and this and this?!” Um, NO. No you don’t. All you need to do is focus on being the amazing, creative, inspiring and fabulous person God created you to be. There is no one on earth like you. There is no one on earth like me. And if you try and be me and I try and be you, then we are both going to fail miserably! But, if we stay in our lane and focus on what we do best, then we are going to flourish and we are going to fly baby 🙂

You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

You are amazing. Of all the people walking on this planet there is not a single one like you. Just look at us! I mean, as I write these words I am thinking of you guys reading this blog. Each of you are incredible, with your own amazing gifts and abilities, and today you are going to go out into this world and release your creativity and amazing-ness!! (Not sure if that is actually a word!) Anyway, the world needs what you have to give… so get out there and run!

So, what do you say? Wanna join me and stay in our own lanes and be amazing?

Love Nat xoxo

A constant in every season.

Good morning my lovely friends 🙂 I’m sending love to you from New York City! Happy Tuesday for the Aussies and happy Monday to us here in the northern hemisphere… I am writing this post from the bedroom of my beautiful first floor apartment, red geraniums are smiling at me on the balcony as I look down to the tree-lined street below. Here’s me watering them the other morning…

So… I have travelled quite a distance since my last blog. After Vancouver I boarded The Canadian train for a three day journey across Canada to Toronto. Oh my gosh, what an amazing experience it was. Sailing through the Rockies, past gorgeous fields and prairies, and just having some time to reflect on a busy but wonderful past month travelling through Alaska and Canada. And now here I am in my beloved NYC! I arrived last Thursday afternoon and am still pinching myself that I am here. Hello NY Public Library 🙂

And here’s my beautiful street…

I chuckled to myself as I powered up Park Avenue through the crowd the other day, two overflowing Wholefoods paper grocery bags in hand, overtaking people at lightening speed and feeling completely like a local! Hey, when in Rome…

Here’s the view from my apartment at night… very inspiring I think 🙂

Washington Square Park on a balmy night…

Such a great atmosphere with street performers everywhere…

So I’m here and it’s wonderful, but as with any new season, mixed emotions often follow along. Over the past four days I have been overwhelmed with joy and excitement that I am finally back here in this city I love, but I have also found myself faced with fear and uncertainty. Being a very organised person, I like things to be in order and planned out, but when you’re in a new city, out of your comfort zone, with nothing familiar around you, this is sometimes not as easy to do as it may be back home. 🙂 So I’ve had to shift things around a little bit and reassess. This morning (after a restless sleep due to a silly migraine) I spent the morning just reading my bible and sitting in God’s presence. Ah, it was honestly like water to my soul.

His presence is everything. What a gift hey. When the busyness and craziness of life is whirling around us, we can feel so out of control, but the wonderful thing is that no matter how far off course we might spin, he is always right there waiting for us. And his presence is a breath of fresh air. It’s a constant and sure thing in our lives and it never, ever changes.

Are you in a new season? Or feeling like you are in transition? Or maybe you have just been in this season for such a long time you are not sure what to do next? Well, whatever you are facing, let’s both be encouraged… as we navigate new territory, journeying this day set before us, let’s be aware that we are pioneering a brave and new path. My friends, we are doing a great job and all of heaven is cheering us on. We are not alone in this… So today, know that you are loved by me and that I am cheering you on in whatever season you are in! < Insert big group hug here! > Here’s me sending you love from my little home in New York 🙂 xxxxx

My heart for this blog is to build a community of friends near and far, who can encourage each other and cheer one another on as we dare to chase the things in our hearts. So if you have some encouragement to share, feel free to send it our way. What greatness is ahead of us! I love you all and am sending you a big hug today from NYC 🙂

Have an amazing day my friend.

Nat xoxo

PPS –  And this is me looking like a local heading out of my apartment the other night ha ha…

Fear is still (and will always, always be) a liar.

Fear is so silly don’t you think? Well I mean, when we’re affected by it’s sneaky discouragement, illusive intimidation and overwhelming anxiety, okay let’s be honest it feels more ‘in-your-face-dangerous‘ than ‘silly’; but that moment we realise just how pathetic and obviously … Continue reading

5 Minute Vacation { New York City }

Happy New York Tuesday! I just thought it was the kind of day to go to New York, wouldn’t you agree? My little niece broke her leg (poor poppet!) on the weekend, so, I think today’s post can be dedicated to my champion sister, who most definitely deserves a “Mother of the Year” trophy after her stellar performance as a superstar-mummy this weekend! Have you or your little ones ever had a broken leg? Any tips or helpful hints to get a ten year old through 8 weeks in a cast? Anyway, lets all go to NY today. First stop.. let’s grab a coffee and stroll through Madison Square Park, as the Flatiron peers over our shoulders. 😉
And we’re not just going to cross the Brooklyn Bridge.. check out this incredible post from A Cup of Jo, where Joanna Goddard shares 10 Amazing Things To Do in NYC (not your typical touristy things!) Having been to NY twice, her guide was a breath of fresh air and I am looking forward to doing some of these things when I am there!
Now this apartment above {how STUNNING!} is featured on Depth of the Interior, you can check out more photos here!
We’ll poke around here in search of some vintage gems at ‘The Upper Rust’ in the East Village.
Then stay a few nights here in St Mark’s Place.
Then we’ll head up to this penthouse rooftop for a bit of rest and relaxation.
Before wandering to the glorious Ladies Pavillion in Central Park.
Perfect for a rest stop. Stunning!
Finished by a delectable dinner here  at the Gramercy Park Hotel.
And just lastly, in my opinion, The Chrysler Building is the prettiest in New York City. Just  look at how she just glimmers and glows, her spire piercing the evening sky above.

Anyway, tell me, do you have a “best kept secret“, like these fab NYC ones? Please share! And happy Tuesday 😉

Interior Love :: The Great Gatsby Suite ~ The Plaza Hotel, New York

If this image doesn’t take your breath away, let me introduce to you a friend of mine and hopefully by the end of this blog you will be in love. Meet The Plaza Hotel. With refined sophistication, she stands in the heart of New York City, right beside Grand Army Plaza on the corner of 59th Street and Fifth Avenue. Soaring majestically 20-storeys into the sky, she peers elegantly over Central Park with effortless beauty and grace.
Below is The Plaza’s Fitzgerald Suite. This suite was recently designed in celebration of Baz Luhrmann’s stunning adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. Let’s a take a tour shall we?
Stunning isn’t it! This dramatic colour palette just oozes 1920’s elegance.
Charming portraits of Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald grace the walls..
As dazzling chandeliers and fresh flowers warm and soften the space.
Love the hardwood floors against crisp white doors and skirting boards..
Pretty posies, black and white frames and textured rugs.
Love those luxurious wallpapered panels.. and that chandelier!
So what do you think?
Who would like to stay?
Whether it’s the Fitzgerald Suite, or one of their other spectacular suites..
This hotel is a DEFINITE on my travel list. 🙂
Ah.. just imagine walking through these doors..
How about you? Is The Plaza somewhere you would love to stay one day? How amazing would it be! What a crazy thought but I’m putting it out there and believing I will stay here in the not too distant future! And if you’d like to stay there just believe it! Cos remember… ANYTHING can happen.

Have a fab Tuesday!

Fitzgerald Suite Images –

In the eye of the beholder.

I first fell in love with New York City when I was a little girl. Then, thirteen years ago, as my dear friend and I explored the sights and sounds of this captivating city, we knew it was  something that would change and inspire us forever. A few weeks ago she lent me a stunning documentary and yesterday I watched it. The film: “Bill Cunningham New York“.
To say I was inspired is an understatement. A man of beauty and grace, this 83 year old New York Times fashion photographer and journalist, full of passion and enthusiasm, has been capturing the beauty he witnesses on the streets of New York City for over three decades.
Sounds kinda like something else I have read before…

We all perceive things differently. Some are inspired by art, some by music, others by design, people, the list is endless. Our eyes are made up of so much more than a pupil, a lens, a retina and all the many other intricacies that make up this incomprehensible mechanism with which we see — it’s so much more than that. It’s not about what we see, it’s about what we see. 🙂

What do you see? Everything is beautiful in its time.. so what is beauty to you? With so many different opinions and ideas of what is beautiful, who wins? And how do we decide? Who judges and comes up with the answer? Well, the answer is, everyone is a winner. Everyone’s view of beauty is different, unique and important. Tell me, what was the most beautiful thing you saw over the weekend?

PS – highly recommend you watch this documentary!

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas.

Put your hand up if the thought of a white Christmas in New York just makes you weak at the knees? Ever since I can remember, I have been slightly obsessed with this city.  Before I went there for the first time in 2000, I had memorised the map of the city. I knew where every street was, understood the public transport system, and of course, knew exacccctly where to shop. 🙂
Macy’s on 34th Street is a must see.
Then head uptown to the Upper East Side to Bloomingdales.
(I can still remember the magical feeling of being in here with my friend Taryn 12 years ago!!)
Then we’ll walk past these brownstone beauties..

..on our way to Central Park for some ice-skating. This rink is on the corner of 59th St and Fifth Avenue (riiiiiight opposite the Plaza Hotel… perfect!!)
Then we’ll visit the famous Christmas tree in Rockerfeller Plaza..

And while we’re there.. why not have another cheeky skate.. 😉

Then after a delicious dinner, we’ll admire this stunning, snow covered city before heading back to The Plaza for a hot chocolate!
Have you been to New York at Christmastime? My brother and sister in law are going to be there this week! In fact I think they arrive there today! Lucky things! One day I know will be there for Christmas, but in the mean time, I’m pretty happy to dream over these beautiful pics. 😉

Have a fab day everyone.. 5 sleeps to go!
